The Coimbras Chapel started as a residence of the Coimbras family. D. João de Coimbra bought the home in 1505 and then built a chapel between 1525 and 1528. This is considered an annex of the São João do Souto church.
Many artists were commissioned to work on the chapel, and many of them came from Biscay. Filipe Odarte worked on the main church, and Hodart created the sculptures found on the outside. There is a rectangular tower wholly covered in a Baroque-style ceiling tile.
There is the Coimbras family coat-of-arms present as well. There is also a lion carved out of limestone in the interior, and many golden rosettes on the ceiling. There is a rounded arch that gives access to the main tomb, but there are arms of the founder that protect this entryway.
Currently, a bar/restaurant is installed in Coimbra's House.
