The Mosteiro de São Martinho de Tibães is located near Braga in the parish of Mire de Tibães. Founded as a monastic community in the early 6th century by São Martinho de Braga, this monastery was built in 1060. This location has undergone many different types of religious organizations but became the main house of the Ordem de São Bento in 1567. This location is known for the strong influence of Rococo and Baroque influences during the 17th and 18th centuries.
This site is known as one of the tremendous artistic revolutions, and many features were designed by the famous architect André Soares. This monastery has been through a lot and was sold at an auction in 1864, which quickly fell into ruin and decay. However, thanks to a renovation project in 1986, a lot of this property has been recovered and the construction is still being completed.
