Castro Laboreiro is an extinct parish in Minho, which belonged to the Melgaço municipality, located in the Serra da Peneda.
This region has an unforgettable view over the Peneda-Gerês National Park, and you can visit it any time of the year. In winter, this whole region is covered with snow. With the arrival of spring, the blossoming of heather and carqueja leaves the mountains with a pleasant aroma in the air. In summer, you can explore nature and all of its landscape. And in the fall, all the vegetation changes color, and the hills are covered with a dazzling yellowish hue.
This area is also known for all its cultural and national heritage, such as the castle, the bridges, the museum center, the plateau megalithic necropolis and rock engravings, and for the oldest dog breed in the Iberian Peninsula: the castro laboreiro, loyal and docile companion and indispensable in the protection of flocks.
