The village of Sistelo, also known as the "Portuguese Tibet", is located in the municipality of Arcos de Valdevez and was one of the winning villages of the contest 7 Wonders of Portugal.
This village, located right in the heart of the Peneda-Gerês National Park, near the source of the Vez river, is noted for its magnificent green terraces. These terraces are a cunning way to get the maximum agricultural and livestock yield by guiding the water and making the land as productive as possible.
There are many points of interest in this village, such as the famous footbridges of Sistelo; the wash-houses and granaries; the imposing castle transformed into a palace; the main church; the Roman bridge over the river Vez; the Nossa Senhora dos Aflitos chapel and the various chapels built there.
To finish your visit, stop by the Chã da Armada viewpoint, which gives you a magnificent panoramic view of these landscapes.
