Arcos de Valdevez

Arcos de Valdevez is a town in the district of Viana do Castelo, in the northern region and sub-region of Alto Minho and with a profound connection to the history of Portugal as an independent nation.

One of the most important historical moments was the meeting between Afonso Henriques and his cousin and Emperor Afonso VII of León and Castile in 1141, which today is called the "Recontro de Valdevez".

This village is composed of the mountain ranges of Soajo and Sistelo, the stunning, majestic, and deep valleys of the rivers Vez and Lima, and the excellence of the National Park of Peneda-Gerês.
