Ponte da Barca is a village that is located in a region rich in nature, on the banks of the Lima River, with several studies suggesting that its name originated from a barge that was used to make the connection between the two banks before the construction of the much acclaimed Ponte da Barca.
A curiosity associated with this region was its denomination of Terra da Nóbrega or Anóbrega, originating from the Roman term "Elaneobriga".
The historical center of this village is composed of several traditional and manor houses, as well as beautiful monuments from the 16th century until the 18th century. This region is also known for its river beaches, waterfalls along the Peneda-Gerês National Park, viewpoints, and trails.
