In the Portuguese village of Ponte de Lima, we can visit the famous bridge that spans the river that gave origin to the name of this village: The Lima River.
This bridge, with a total of 24 arches, dates back to two distinct periods: the first period that takes us to its creation, of Roman origin. Very little remains from this period due to the enormous deterioration of the Roman bridge and the changes that occurred along the Lima River; the second period, of medieval origin in which a new structure was built, represented a considerable advance for the time.
Currently closed to car traffic, the crossing can only be done on foot, which allows any visitor to contemplate the incredible landscape over the riverbed and the surrounding area. It is possible to observe its illuminated arches and reflections over the river at night.
