The Fonte do Ídolo, Fountain of the Idol is a famous Roman fountain. This rock is located in Callaici Bracari and is made of granite rock with many Latin inscriptions dedicated to various Lusitanian and Gallaecian gods. This piece was built in the era of Roman Emperor Augustus.
The fountain’s construction began in the 1st century and was created by Celicus Fronto. The rush has passed through many different hands, but the location has always remained the same. The fountain is 3 meters wide and 1.2 meters high, and has a modernist structure that is appreciated throughout Braga.
Since 1910 it has been classified as a National Monument.
